ARSENĀLS Exhibition Hall is one of the largest exhibition halls in Riga. It is located in an important architectural monument – a customs warehouse in the late Russian Classicism style. During the "Museum Night" I visited it to reveal for myself the world of "Hyperrealistic" art. Being informed through google, youtube and wikipedia, I thought it is a "skill" to reproduce the reality with accuracy and bound of details. As photographer, I found it difficult to understand the use of this kind of art. Thus, I went to the exhibition with little expectations. To my surprise, "hyperrealism" involves a wide range of techniques, styles and methods of self-expression. Unlike examples posted on the internet, the exhibition revealed a new way of pictorial expression. In addition to distinctive fine art classical techniques, hyperrealism includes pictorial techniques characteristic to photography art. Besides the use of geometrical lens distortion, long exposure effect and death of field, artists use the polarization, color inversion, highlights and other interesting and unusual technics, to achieve the desired effect. As photographer, I was amazed and inspired how fine art artists have observed, felt and used technics characteristic to the field I work in for over 10 years. I think, photographers have to learn "taking out of the box" their photography art objects pass over the limits imposed by our reality.
Hence, I decided to capture the connection between reality and "hyperrealism" through photography. I tried to reveal the visual contact between real and unreal walls, people in move and fixed people's portraits, real size and Illustrated sizes, the human's spirit of discovery and deepening into the world of artist's imagination.
